In the last couple of weeks, it seems like summer may be coming to a close. As we head into a new fashion season, we thought it might be a good time to discuss organizing your closet and assessing your wardrobe. Why not consider what you can do to manage and curate a fabulous wardrobe this season?

Organizing a closet can seem daunting, but we have suggestions on how to make this easier. First, go through your closet and separate your clothing, footwear, and accessories.

Keep things simple by sorting into three categories: autumn/winter, spring/summer, and all-season. Once you have things in categories, decide whether to keep, consign, donate or throw out.

We suggest you ask the following questions as you sort your clothing.

Is your clothing a consistent colour palette?

Having complementary colours helps you mix and match and elevate your closet’s aesthetic.

Is organizing clothing by colour a good idea?

Organizing clothes by colour is probably the number one thing you can do to make your closet more functional and beautiful. Start organizing from light to dark shades. When clothing is organized by colour, it is a visually pleasing look, and you'll be able to find what you're looking for quickly.

Is hanging and folding your clothing important?

Investing in uniform hangers saves space and adds a polished look to your closet. Non-slip hangers work well for delicate item, and sturdy hanger work well for heavier pieces such as jackets. Fold sweaters that will stretch on hangers.

What is the easiest way to store footwear, handbags, scarves and belts?

Hooks and racks are simple yet effective tools for maximizing closet space. Use any extra space to install hooks inside your closet door or walls to hang bags, scarves, or belts.

Save the boxes when you buy footwear so you can neatly store footwear in your closet. Plastic shoe boxes are also good to purchase and use if you want a more uniform look.

Consider a wall-mounted rack for jewelry or accessories, keeping them visible and accessible. Racks declutter your closet and add an interesting visual element to the space.

Lastly, if you are unsure what to do with some items, place them aside and decide at a later date. You don't want to be too hasty and have regrets later. Assessing your closet is the first step to curating a wardrobe. Take time to purge, organize, and store your clothes.

Jackets and Vests

We have a really great selection of jackets and vests this season. Consider wearing a lighter-weight jacket before cold winter teperatures arrive.

A short quilted jacket looks stylish and Blundstone boots are a practical choice of footwear.

Barn jackets and boxy-shaped jackets look beautiful with wider-leg pants.

Scarves

Scarves have made a comeback. Neck scarves add a polished look to any outfit.

A square scarf is versatile, and you can tie it several ways. You can tie your scarf in a half-bow, ascot, cravat, or simple knot. We are happy to show you how to style your scarves this season.

We just received our cashmere knitted scarves. There are larger wrap scarves and smaller triangle-shaped scarves. There is nothing cozier than cashmere.
