Welcome to the New You - in Colour

Happy New Year. We hope you had a peaceful holiday full of cheer.

We are beginning to receive some of our collections for the coming season, and thought this might be a good time to talk about colours trending this season and how to choose what colours you might like to wear.

Have you ever wondered how to find a colour palette you would like to wear? One way to do this is to conduct a colour analysis that considers your skin, eye, and hair colour to find what suits you best. Analyzing colours can be an easy and fun way to discover new choices.

There is a method to finding and categorizing individuals by personal colours around seasons. Basically, this method assesses which colours and metals look best with your skin, hair, and eye colour. If you drop by the store, we are happy to do a colour analysis for you so you can find some new favourite colours to incorporate into your wardrobe this year.

Once you know what season category you fit into, it’s time to compare the colours and shades you already have in your wardrobe.

It’s important to remember that we are all different and have various colour preferences; there are no set rules about what your colour palette should be. What is key is that you understand how you feel and what you like when you are wearing specific colours. Here are a few strategic ways you can integrate colour into your wardrobe.

Find a Base Colour

First, decide on the base colour you want to wear.  Colours that transcend seasons and can be worn for years are a good start. Good examples of these colours are black, white, khaki, navy, beige, tan, and camel.

A rich brown jacket is a great base colour this season.

Highlight Colours

Once you have found your base colours, you may want to add brighter and more individual shades to your outfits. Highlight colours are essentially any other shade or hue that isn’t one of your base colours. Highlight colours are great for mixing into your wardrobe each season.

A bold burgundy jacket is a fabulous highlight colour.

Once you’ve worked out your base colours and understand which highlight colours you want to integrate and wear, you can play around with how you put them together. Two ways to consider are choosing tonal colours or prints to pair with your base and highlight colours.

Tonal Colours

Tonal dressing involves choosing a single colour and wearing different shades of that colour in one outfit.

Tonal colours are always a pleasing look that gives your outfit  an elegant style.

Prints

When wearing a print with a number of colours, keep the rest of your outfit simple and choose one or two colours in the print to match with another part of your outfit or accessories.

A gorgeous Johnny Was reversible kimono is bright, and you can choose any colour from this print to match your outfit.

The navy colour in this jacket looks strong when paired with a navy T-shirt and denim pants.

Adding colour can be so uplifting.

Remember, colour pairings are guidelines, not rules. We're here and always happy to share our fashion expertise.

There is still plenty of winter before spring weather arrives, and we have warm winter jackets, knitted hats, scarves, or mittens.

Also, we want to remind you how incredibly practical our Olang boots are in cold wintery conditions. These boots feature folding stainless steel cleats for better traction on ice and have a waterproof membrane and will provide comfort to -30 degrees.

We have a choice of styles and colours in both women's and men’s boots.
